"CopperGarden" still "Hennin" 0,5 L

This Hennin still is a true masterpiece from the "CopperGarden®" forge and was reconstructed according to historical drawings from the Middle Ages. At the same time, versatile, modern features were forged into the Hennin.

The Hennin still, available in the basic version here, consists of an iron stand, the 0,5 liter boiler and the pointed head with the distinctive downward sloping swan neck on the side. Cooling by air was used in the Middle Ages, that is why the head is so high over the swan neck. The distillate cools on the high head and runs down to the swan neck. We have taken the liberty of soldering a collection channel inside the head.

As a special extra, there is also the possibility of fitting an aroma sieve between the head and the boiler. This would make it possible to place aromatic material in the sieve and steam it. With this gadget the still is suitable for use as a full-fledged steam still – and best of all, the sieves are stackable. Depending on what you want to distil, you can stack three or even four sieves one on top of the other, and distil essential oils this way. The more plant material you use, the higher the yield of essential oils!

The name Hennin originated in the 14th century. At that time women wore the “Hennin” which was a conical headdress with a long, rose-patterned veil attached to the point.

We supply two different sieves as attachments for this Hennin still. Depending on use, it is possible to distil essential oils. The paths the vapor takes in this still are particularly short and due to the possibility of stacking several sieves, the yield of essential oils is rather high.

If you decide to use the smaller sieve and choose a condenser as an accessory, you can distil excellent flavored spirits. Simply fill the boiler with alcohol and fill the sieve with aromatic material, e.g. anise or caraway, and distil. This allows you to produce all kinds of spirits, from gin to raspberry brandy. However, it is necessary to cool the head when distilling alcohol – maybe as they did in the Middle Ages by wrapping a wet cloth around it – or the somewhat more modern method of filling a condenser (which you can obtain separately) with ice cubes or spraying the head with water.

We have designed the stand for the Hennin so that it can be used over an open fire, just like in the Middle Ages. However, using a lighting gel is more practical, and we include 3 packs of 80 grams each in the delivery.

Important information:

Distillation is strictly regulated or even forbidden in some countries. Please inform yourself and pay attention to the regulations in your country. We can ship worldwide, but we cannot check if you are allowed to own a still. Shipping within the EU is completely unrestricted. For shipping to countries outside the EU we have to affix the invoice and shipping list to the outside of the package. Up to now we have never had problems with the importation of our stills into other countries.
