"CopperGarden®" copper wool | 50 grams | Distilling & rectifying

Copper wool is one of the most effective aids used in distillation. It increases the active copper surface area inside your still, supports rectification, and helps bind unwanted sulfur compounds. The result can be cleaner, more aromatic, and higher-quality distillates – whether you are producing alcohol, hydrolates, or essential oils.

Note: Copper has been used in distillation for centuries because of its catalytic properties. Stills made of stainless steel, glass, or ceramic benefit from the use of copper wool in the vapor path or in the column. It is important not to pack the copper wool too tightly so that the vapor can flow through it freely and the large surface area can achieve its full effect.

More aroma, cleaner distillates and better rectification

This fine CopperGarden® copper wool is one of the most important accessories for anyone seeking the best possible results when distilling. Whether you are producing alcohol, hydrolates, or essential oils, copper performs a crucial catalytic function during distillation and naturally improves the quality of the distillate.

During distillation, sulfur compounds and other unwanted by-products are formed that can negatively affect the aroma. The fine copper fibers provide an enormous surface area to which these compounds can bind. The result is cleaner, smoother, and more aromatic distillates with a noticeably more pleasant smell and taste.

At the same time, copper wool is an excellent packing material for distillation columns. It increases the contact surface between vapor and condensate, thereby enhancing the rectification effect in a manner similar to Raschig rings. This allows for higher alcohol concentrations and a significantly cleaner separation of the individual fractions.

The catalytic properties of copper also benefit the production of hydrolates and essential oils. Many users report a finer aromatic profile and cleaner hydrolates, especially when working with herbs and flowers containing sulfur compounds or particularly strong plant constituents.

Our copper wool consists of fine, untreated copper fibers that have been processed into a flexible strand. It can easily be pulled apart, shortened, shaped, and precisely adapted to your still. Whether you use a small tabletop still, a large column still, or a homemade stainless steel, glass, or ceramic still, the catalytic properties of copper can be utilized wherever vapor passes through copper.

The product is supplied as a folded strand approximately 12 cm wide and about 35 cm long, weighing 50 grams. For small stills, a single package is usually sufficient. For larger columns, several packages can be combined to achieve the desired cleaning effect and level of rectification. Please take advantage of our attractive quantity discounts.

Outside of distillation, copper wool is also highly versatile. It can be used as a gentle cleaning material for sensitive metal surfaces, copper, brass, aluminum, or stainless steel, as a filtering or packing material, or for sealing small openings, as it does not rust and is difficult for rodents to penetrate. This means that very little remains unused after distillation.

Why copper? Copper has been the most important material in distillation for centuries. Not because of its beautiful appearance, but because of its unique catalytic properties. During distillation, it binds sulfur-containing compounds and thereby improves the aroma, taste, and purity of the distillate. This is precisely why even modern stainless steel stills are often equipped with copper wool or copper packing material.

Why you should buy this "CopperGarden®" copper wool from us

  • You receive 50 grams of the finest copper wool made from 100% pure, untreated copper. The particularly fine copper fibers provide an exceptionally large surface area and therefore an optimal catalytic effect.
  • You improve the quality of your distillates naturally. During distillation, copper binds unwanted sulfur compounds and other undesirable by-products, making alcohol, hydrolates, and essential oils cleaner and more aromatic.
  • You increase the rectification effect of your still. As a column packing material, the copper wool works similarly to Raschig rings and enables better separation of fractions as well as higher alcohol concentrations.
  • You can flexibly shape, pull apart, or cut the copper wool and thereby adapt it perfectly to almost any still – whether CopperGarden®, Arabia, EasyMoonshine, or a custom-built still made of stainless steel, glass, or ceramic.
  • You can also use the copper wool as a mash screen, splash guard, or packing material, making optimal use of the vapor space in your still.
  • You benefit from numerous additional applications outside of distillation, for example for the gentle cleaning of sensitive metal surfaces, as filter material, or for sealing small openings against mice and insects.
  • You are purchasing original "CopperGarden®" brand quality manufactured in Germany. The copper wool consists of untreated, bare copper fibers and is carefully packaged for you.
  • You receive your order quickly, safely, and climate-neutrally from our own warehouse. Of course, you also benefit from our Destillatio guarantee and personal expert advice.
